The Bearrs Lime has a mysterious past, sometimes being thought of as identical to the Tahiti lime. It is thought that it got its name from T.J. Bears who found the plant growing in his garden in 1895; possibly, the tree sproated from the seedling of a Tahiti lime that was cross pollinated. The tree varies in that it is more erect and larger than the Tahiti lime. Additionally, the fruit is larger and virtually seedless. The tree produces all year round in milder coastal areas with fragrant blossoms. This variety is the #1 grown commercial lime. The fruit is thin skinned and high in acid.
